About Pizza in Astoria
Astoria's pizza reflects the neighborhood itself: Italian-American roots layered with everything that arrived after. Ditmars and 30th Avenue carry most of the sit-down rooms, while Steinway Street and Broadway hold the counters that have been selling slices to the same families for decades.
The newer wood-fired places cluster north of 30th Avenue, close enough to the older shops that you can compare the two styles in an afternoon. It's one of the few neighborhoods in the city where that comparison is a short walk.
