A love letter to New York pizza
I grew up in Bensonhurst, Brooklyn, in the heart of the Italian-American community. You couldn't walk a few blocks without coming across another pizzeria. In Brooklyn, pizza has always been more than food — it's yelling “did you order yet?” in the house on a weeknight when nobody wanted to cook, it's the delivery guy who just walks in your house because he knows you, it's the place you hung out at after school with your friends, where you would purposely mess with the pizza man and he would just laugh while he makes pizza. Pizzerias are the place where so many memories are made. This map is my way of keeping those memories alive, and creating new ones.
How the list is made
This is a curated "best of" not a full directory. Every spot on the map has to earn its place. You're serving soggy, garbage slices that have been out for hours? You're disrespecting the pizza tradition? You're not getting on this list. We only accept quality.
The list is built by aggregating the opinions of my longtime friends, family, critical consensus, long-standing neighborhood staples, and my own personal taste from the last 40 years of eating New York pizza. You want a classic after-school slice? A Sicilian square? A Neapolitan pie? This list has it all.
Something wrong? Something missing?
Places close, pizzaiolos move on, and the city never stops changing. A place you like isn't on here? Are you gonna cry? Let me know, maybe we'll add 'em to the list.
