Best Pizza in Bushwick

Bushwick gets written about for one kind of pizza and eats another. Ops is the name that travels — long-fermented sourdough, seasonal toppings, a natural wine list, closer to a supper club than a pizzeria — and it is the only spot on this page that isn't a classic slice counter. The other six are all $, all classic slice, and all a good deal older than the neighborhood's reputation.

The spine is Knickerbocker Avenue. Fazio's at 709 and Tony's at 443 sit a few blocks apart on one of Brooklyn's most stubbornly working-class commercial strips, and neither has changed much for the crowd that arrived after them. Head east to Wilson Avenue for Jimmy's, which is the most old-school of the lot.

The newer arrivals mostly came from the next neighborhood over: Ace's opened a Troutman Street counter after its Driggs Avenue original in Williamsburg. Lucky Charlie's own pitch says it plainly — a straightforward NY slice in an area better known for sourdough. On this page, the straightforward slice still outnumbers it six to one.
